news : JESU EP, SWANS drummer Vinny, and future...

I wrote the words and sang the song Storm Comin' On on the Lifeline EP from JESU out now on HydraHead.
Coming in Jan/Feb is a 6 song EP called J2 which is a collaboration between Justin Broadrick and myself. That one will be on The End Records and will be released under my name.
I also go into the studio in New York in January to record my new album which will feature former SWANS ' drummer, Vinny Signorelli.
The studio is owned by Colin of BYLA with whom I recently collaborated. The project is entitled Byla & Jarboe.

Frankie Sundsten has a show in Chelsea of her paintings. If you are in the NYC area, check it out at Jenkins Johnson Gallery.
Frankie's work is on the cover of Lisa Germano's cd for YGR and her husband is former SWANS drummer Bill Rieflin. Bill is currently with Robyn Hitchock and was recently drummer for REM. He was also drummer for Ministry.

Angels of Light

What are some thoughts on Gira's post-SWANS band?

I only have "How I Loved You", though I have the most recent one on the way. Judging just from the one album I have, I like that it sounds a bit more refined, definitely more melodic than some of his solo stuff in the past, but still every bit as intense as the glory-days SWANS material.

Thoughts?

Angels of Light and Akron/Family in concert

Saw Angels of Light on Tuesday night in Dallas - amazing! Michael played alot of material from the new album. The opening act was another great band - Akron/Family. They also backed up Michael for the Angels set. Their album is on Young God Records - I highly recommend it!

Oh my GOD . I can't BELIEVE people even know about this band! I had not thought about them in YEARS from my East Village days when my friend Harrold Pook (Harry Crosby) played in 'a band', SWANS. I can't believe 20 years later pple are into it! When I saw this tribe i had to investigate if it was the same band, of course Harry played in Swans when I knew him, mid 80s, and I think his last album was the last $ album HOLY MONEY. Wonder where old Harold Pook is? Right lovely chap, he ! I once gave him a buzz cut! Harold, are you out there ?

Oh, and my friend just saw Devendra Banhart last night...I completely forgot about the show because I suck. This is what he said about it:

"I saw the amazing, dramatic, love-carnival known as Devendra Banhart. I would try to describe the experience, but I'm still feeling the absolutely beautiful strangeness of it all and don't want to put any words on it yet. Live show review to appear soon on the Jersey Beat website.

Not only was the show amazing, but Michael Gira was in the crowd (of course), and so was Rik Ocasik. The most notable face in the audience, however, was the guy I stood next to: Lou Fucking Reed."

This is what I get for sitting at home and whining about how there's nothing to do anymore. GAH. I deserve to be beaten with wet noodles or something.

Oh, and I dunno if anyone recorded the show last night, but I'll ask around...

Jarboe's New One

Anyone have the new Jarboe CD? I think it came out this week - I had a look at it at the record store when I noticed it had been put out with the new releases...I love her voice, but I haven't really been able to get into the solo stuff she's done. I thought "Sacrificial Cake" was interesting, and I like the song "Red", but beyond that, I get lost. I am curious as to what she's up to stylistically these days, though...
